Video games plays a great role and source for entertainment for every target market. It is not a long time ago that video games are made and meant exclusively for kids. With change being the only thing permanent on this world, it is inevitable that video games have to evolve in order to survive and became the industry that it is known for today.

Just like the industry itself video game genres and technology has slowly but surely evolved during the course of time. One gaming genre which has shifted form one technology over the other is the casual gaming genre of dance games. From being a mere button mashing, timing and combination from classic platform themed games, game developers took interest on that separate aspect of those game and went on its own path to create a new type of gaming genre, the music video games or dance games to be specific.

Dance Dance Revolution was seemingly the first popular music video game genre about rhythm and dance. The mechanics of the game was simple match one's feet with the timing and rhythm provided by the game. The game ranks the players accuracy which would later be displayed whether the player wins or loses. Unlike other video game genres, music video games are under the casual gaming genre which made it more accessible to first time players and a great source of casual gaming leisure to hardcore gamers. The music video game genre gain more phenomenal success in its arcade version which was noticeable as long lines form near Dance Revo machines. Generally, it is mainly controlled using one's feet.

The next step up and a spin off to the feet controlled music video game is the Para Para Paradise dance series which focuses more on hand control gameplay. Just like Dance Dance Revolution, Para Para has the same mechanics except the controls of the game, which are the hands. It is not to be mistaken that the Para Para Paradise is the next evolution of the Dance Dance Revolution series. The two games has continued its evolution adding more tracks and difficulty through out the years.

This time with the advent of the next gen console game's motion control, it looks like another variation will be created. If Dance Dance Revolution focuses more on the feet control and Para Para Paradise is to hands, then Dance Central is to full body. Check out this gameplay sneak peak here:

There are other types of music video games out there but these two types (hands and feet) of dance video game control series have been the most prolific during their course of time. With the new technology of Kinect, looks like the best of both these games are incorporated into one aerobic and healthy game which is now the full body motion control dance games.
