Whether one is a hardcore gamer whose into dedicated hours of game play or a casual one with only a small amount of time, it is undeniable that video games have been one of the top income generators for investors (game companies and developers) and an ultimate source of leisure for gamers from all walks of life. With over millions of international market to produce for and please, what kind of games are people really patronizing?

A gamer could either be categorize as a hardcore gamer or a casual gamer. So what are these games that separate the demography of gamers? By definition, a hardcore game is video game with over hours of gaming usually to experience and conclude a convoluted gaming storyline, that may or may have multiplayer features to spend additional gaming hours with peers. On the other hand, a casual game is a video or online game targeted at or used by a mass audience of gamers who prefers simple and interactive games; games with simple rules and does not really require long-term time commitment or special skills to play unlike its hardcore game counterpart.

At first, there was a seemingly noticeable discussion and comparison amongst the gaming community on the popularity and the overall gaming experience of between the one gaming category over the other. But as time moves on, it seems like the boundary between the production and patronization of casual over hardcore video games have now been broken and they are now considered on equal footing.

Gone are the days when casual games are looked down by other hardcore gamers and set aside by most game developers for its low income generating value. Through the popularity of social networking websites like facebook, newgrounds, y8, etc., casual games have recaptured the attention of commercial and successful video game companies to invest in the industry once more. Check out a good analysis of GamePro on what the burgeoning casual games market might mean for hardcore gamers on The Verdict: Casual Games .
