Sales is the measurement of how a particular product makes well in a competitive world of market. Sales is achieved by products, the same product which could either spell a big success for a company, or an unthinkable defeat and waste of resource for poor sales. So it is pretty standard of what every company aspires for, a product which could gain them both success in terms of fame and money for sales. But after a successful product release what's next? How can they create or recreate such success for their companies? In the video gaming industry, this is called video game title franchising.

Video games has been investing on various video game titles which in turn could yield a favorable number of sales for them. The trick here is to not completely finish the game title which will make the gamers asking for more. These video game titles could have a cliff hanging conclusion, an ending which gives more questions than answer, an underlying threat which could possibly mean an expansion of sorts, or just had a cult following and demand, and thus making a somewhat sequel and series out of those successful title.

This is a noticeable video game creation cliche which can be observed on successful video game titles like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Call of Duty, Halo, Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider, God of War, Splinter Cell, Legend of Zelda, Gears of War, Star Craft, Alan Wake and many more. If one would notice there is a wide variety of genres that the mentioned games fall under which means that video game franchises isn't exclusive for the first person shooter genre. It is noticeable though that shooter games have higher demand for franchise or sequels these days rather than other genres, except for those game titles which already established a cult following, e.g. Final Fantasy franchise.

All in all, video game publishers cooperates with video game companies to create a potential successful game title that could possibly create a game franchise with a good gamer following which also in turn converts to successful video game sales. A win-win relationship that everyone could benefit from.
