More or less 7 years ago, everyone is talking about Friendster. You aren’t in the zone if you don’t own a Friendster account. Almost all people put their best faces as their primary photo on the said social networking site. Students own more than one account. Majority of the users demands to their personal friends to put some testimonials on their profile. But what know? The rise of Facebook, Multiply, Twitter, Tumblr and other SNS’s made the used to be talk of the town now an obsolete website.

Friendster has almost 115 million registered users and a large number of unique visitors globally. It used to monopolize the social networking market during its time. However, the site has suffered a decline in traffic last 2009. This is mainly attributed to the rise of Facebook, a Zuckerberg creation, Freindster’s rival SNS.

The site made attempts such as adding special features on their site to keep up with the competition. They added the tagging of photos, games and widgets, status updates and there is even classifieds feature on the said site. But in spite all efforts, registration on the said site continuously went down. In addition to that, other have already deactivated their Friendster account thinking that there is no use to continue using it.

However, we can say that there are some things that Friendster possesses that its rival doesn’t have. For example, there is an absence of “Who’s Viewed Me” on Facebook. But in Friendster, you can keep track of the people who viewed your profile. This feature lies in your hands. You can choose to turn on or off the “view profile anonymously” feature. Also, you can customize your profile based on your preference. If you are girly, try pink. If you are an emo, try black and red combination. There is a variety of layouts you can choose from.

Even if Friendster today isn’t as popular as it was before, we should keep it mind that once in our lives, we went crazy over this site. However, Friendster status is a good illustration of the quote that not all things are permanent. Even Fame. Even popularity.
