Geek ArticlesHonor for Thor, God of Thunder
He is one of the many Marvel superheroes who is not a human. His attitude at first was not of a protagonist. He is arrogant, sometimes cruel, loves to fight and disobeys his father’s orders. He was supposed to be next King of Asgard, but because of his actions was then banished to Earth. The fifth day of the week was named after him. Thursday is his day. He is non-other than the god of thunder, Thor. Marvel comic heroes have always been one of the favorite sources for Hollywood to put into reels recently. Whether it is an individual super hero like Ironman, Spiderman or Wolverine or a group of super heroes like the Fantastic Four, X-Men or The Avengers, it usually creates box office success but usually not critically acclaimed by critics. Thor is another movie that joins other Marvel Comics heroes put into the big screen. The movie is lead by Chris Hemsworth and Academy Award’s best actress Natalie Portman who played the role of a scientist named Jane. Tom Hiddleston played the role as Loki, Thor’s adopted brother who turned to be a traitor of his kingdom and Hollywood veteran Anthony Hopkins as Thor's father, Odin. The story revolves around Thor, being banished to Earth, finds his purpose and realizes what chaos he created when he disobeyed his father. His father’s orders were to not go to a forbidden place called Jotunheim where Frost Giants lived. Thor finds himself wanting to protect the human race and his own kingdom as his adopted brother who turned out to be coming from the Frost Giant’s race becomes greedy of power. It has a good enough story which will keep the viewers hook on the screen. The special effects and sound was excellently done. However, the love story of Thor and his love interest, Jane never had a good ending and leaves it hanging. The movie will keep you guessing whether or not Thor will be coming back to Earth to find Jane. Thor was a good super hero movie. The story is all about responsibility. The movie tells that any individual, even as powerful as a god (Thor) cannot have everything in life. There will always decisions to be done and choices made. Whether they are good or bad, for the people or for himself, it teach us to take responsibility for the choices we made. The movie elaborates that not all super heroes are role model of goodness, have a good sense of justice and holds peace dear to them. Sometimes these heroes starts from being arrogant, disobedient, irresponsible, shallow and war mongering individuals who we see go to a transition as the film goes which makes us want to cheer for them in the end.
