Remakes, Sequels and Prequels: Fans versus Hollywood

Thank author of this post/comment

Television, movies, video games and toys all played a big part in shaping one's childhood. They also have influenced a lot of people to be where at they right now. This is why the classics would be on the hearts of each and every one of us, for every one is a fan of something.

Some people may have gone through extremes just to hold on to those classics. Some may actually join and establish groups dedicated to these classic icons which are the totality of their childhood, dreams, and essence as a human. Sounds dramatic but this is a fact. Try arguing with a star Wars or Star Trek fan? Try lashing out these so called classic television and movie franchises publicly and prepare for the full wrath of the community against you. This does not only pertains to the geekdom and fan culture of classic titles but to hardcore contemporary fans as well. A good example of which are the Playstation 3 and xbox 360 fan boys and girls who usually clash out on social networking sites like Facebook, Youtube, and forums regarding which console and titles for that consoles is the best.

Hollywood can't be blamed for investing and making a profit out of such established series, title or franchise. Though new audience may look forward to the idea of a classic returning to the big screen, most fans do not like the idea of Hollywood "degrading" (as how they call it) and fitting their epic series into a two and a half (or less) hour movie. Just take the recent remakes of Transformers, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Last Airbender was received by mixed reviews and reception from both critics and fans of the series. While some may thank these film bodies for bringing back their beloved series back in contemporary times, some cries for injustice for how bad, and poorly made and based these movies are from the actual universe they got it from. In the end, Hollywood does not even care about these minor escalations against their movies, as long as they have created it and made money for that classic television, movie, game and toy franchise.
