In the last days of 2010, Microsoft released to a cheering crowd the Kinect, the $150 Xbox add-on which allows users to use gestures, body movements as game controllers, making control pads look like an obsolete technoology.

The popularity of the platform, and the Kinect itself, resulted into fanatics trying to hack into the Kinect system to create their own ideas using the technology.

Currently, there are tens to hundreds of websites dedicated into hacking within the Kinect software - hackaday.com, kinecthacks.com, kinecthacks.net to name a few. And Microsoft doesn't seem to mind.

In fact, they have actually released their own experimental, software development toolkit available for noncommercial users, OpenKinect, which allows a wide array of home experimentations using the Kinect software.

A lot of new games and applications have been produced for the Kinect since it was released, and not all of them spearheaded by Microsoft. Most of them are from independent developers and hackers. A big part of the hackers group focusing on exploiting Kinect are artists, creating a world, a game, that captures their imagination.
