When one is passionate about some thing, there is without a shadow of a doubt that he will do everything in his ability to pursue that goal. From television series, film franchise, toys, video games, animation, cars, and various collectibles, people can become instant fans of something and before they even knew they are collecting everything that has something to do with that passion of theirs, and it is just alright given that it doesn't hinders with one's life. People call them geeks, sometimes nerds, but the truth of the matter is they are the same as everyone else. They are motivated and inspired to do what they can because of a specific goal. Why do you think that up to this day that Star Trek or Star Wars lore still lives on, making various production companies invest in them in one way or he other (i.e. video games, books, toys and other merchandise)? The answer, because of the fans. The fans are keeping a classic series alive because they loved it so much that they wanted it to have it as long as their life goes and in the process breeding new life to new generations of fan which can be friends or their actual children. Because of fans, we now have various conventions which has become an annual event worldwide. It is also a win-win situation for companies and artists that started out such phenomena to make money out of it, and guess what the fans doesn't care; as long as they have the chance to get that new action figure, a rare signed poster, a picture with the author, or new collectible merchandise they are just fine. Fans also extend the universe if they are creative enough as seen on various fan fictions scattered all over the internet. Fans are inspired to write and use the characters they love and extend the already interesting and established universe, which is both great for them for personal growth as individuals and for the original artist who created such universe when he is out of ideas or is in a "block". Fans also play with costumes and thus CosPlay was born. Their sheer will and passion for a series makes them wants to dress p as their favorite character from the series they grew to adore. Others sometimes just customized their in-game (video game) characters to exactly resemble and sounds like their favorite character which can be seen in various MMORPGs. You can talk about...
