What would the world be like without video games? With over of decades of development video games are considered one of the best sources for home entertainment and has greatly shaped the future of society. From its original roots as a curious source of entertainment for children to a stand alone successful industry which caters to a much wider audience, the video game industry has gone a long way now, all thanks to game developers, publishers, and conventions.

If the Electronic Entertainment Expo (also known as E3) is the mother of all gaming convention in the United States, then Tokyo Game Show is it's bigger than life counterpart in Asia. As most gaming enthusiast knows, Japan is a big influence in the development and history of video games in general. With large companies like Capcom, Sony, and Square Enix based and operates in Japan, this makes Tokyo a perfect venue for one of the world's biggest gaming convention.

The Tokyo Game Show was first held in 1996, an annual event held twice a year, every spring and autumn. In 2002 the format was dropped and has been held once a year (in autumn), ever since. The Tokyo Game Show is annually held in Makuhari Messe (convention center), in Chiba, Japan. It is presented by the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA) and the Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. It has then become a venue for both local (Japanese) and International game developers and publishers to show off their upcoming games and game-related hardware, though the main focus is on the Japanese market rather than overseas.

Like any other major gaming conventions, it is extensively covered by various international entertainment websites and blogs like IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku, 1Up.com, Screw Attack, Game Trailers,  and many more. You can check more about the annual game show at the Tokyo Game Show official website.
