People considered as geeks, nerds or anyone in between has been under the scrutiny of the public branding them other inappropriate names, others label them as "weirdos". The truth of the matter is that everyone is a geek in their own kind which did not pass by the ever watchful eyes of business industries and companies.

 

International and major establishments have been cashing in on the fan culture of geeks and nerds which they could either have established or maintained throughout the years. To showcase new innovations, announcements, potential hit-products, cash in on merchandise, and many more they have held conventions which is targeted to the geeks and nerd market. What are these popular gaming, movie and book conventions which have been a venue of expression and acceptance for fans, geeks, nerds, advertisers alike? These are some of them:

  • ComiCon (Comic-Con or San Diego Comic-Con) is the most popular annual comic book convention in the United States. The most recognized and notable one is the San Diego Comic-Con International which have been held since the 1970s. A perfect venue for comic book companies giants like Marvel and DC to showcase new series, titles, and movie adaptations from their brands. A paradise for every comic book fan and geeks alike.
  • E3 or the Electronic Entertainment Expo is the ComiCon of video games. E3 is an annual trade show for the computer and video games industry presented by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). It is used by many video game developers to show off their upcoming games and game-related hardware.
  • Cannes Film Festival is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious film festivals founded in 1946. It is a candy store for movie goers with various taste for movie genres. Annually, local and international press, celebrities and production people gathers at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, in the resort town of Cannes, in the south of France. Films are recognized as they are disregarding the popularity of the actors involve or their budget, Cannes has been the glorified version of ComiCon or E3 for the movie industry.
